The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will expand its Internet site Monday to include postings of arrests, jail bookings and monthly crime statistics. The site will also expand its daily rundown of calls for service that the department receives.

“It’s just an effort to make our information more accessible to the public,” said department spokesman Capt. Ron Wilkerson.

The Sheriff’s Department, which provides police services to 12 cities and a number of unincorporated areas, began posting its calls for service about two years ago. But the information has been limited to a call’s time, date, location and the criminal code.

“But now, people also will be able to read a brief description of what the call was about,” Wilkerson said.

The arrest log will list the name of anyone arrested in the previous 30 days. Web users also will be able to find the names of people who have been booked into Orange County Jail and determine bail amounts.

In the future, the department plans to post arrest warrants and call logs from every police agency in the county.

“The goal is to provide as much information as we can to the public, and in doing so, hopefully encourage the public’s participation in crime prevention,” Wilkerson said.

The Sheriff’s Department Web site is at https://www.ocsd.org.
