2 Pakistani Men to Be Allowed to Leave U.S.

An immigration judge Thursday granted the request of two Pakistani men picked up for questioning after the Sept. 11 attacks to leave the country voluntarily rather than face deportation.

Attorney Carrye Washington said the judge agreed to let Ahmed Atta and Salman Hyder, both 19, leave at their own expense. She said the Immigration and Naturalization Service reserved the right to appeal. The INS has refused to comment.

The two men, students at Irvine Valley College, were picked up in October at their Fountain Valley apartment and accused of minor visa violations.
