Triple Holiday Celebration Set Sunday at Temple Beth El

A “triple celebration” honoring the holidays of Ramadan, Hanukkah and Advent will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Temple Beth El of South Orange County. Sheik Yassir Mohammed, Rabbi Allen Krause and Father Rafael Luevano will be the spiritual leaders.

The evening will begin with an inter-religious seasonal prayer service discussing the holidays. Later, participants may enjoy a dinner and dessert featuring foods of each tradition.

Hanukkah

* The Orange County Performing Arts Center’s seventh Hanukkah concert begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The concert will feature cantors and choirs from 12 Orange County synagogues and day schools. Tickets are $18 and $36 for adults, $9 for children. Patron tickets, which include dinner with performers at the Center Club, are $125. * The Lifelong Learning Program will present “Hanukkah at Home” from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday in the bride’s room at Temple Beth David in Westminster. Participants will discover the two myths of Hanukkah and learn traditional blessings and songs. Reservations are requested. Rabbi Maya Leibovich, the first Israeli woman to become a rabbi, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Then, the temple will hold its Hanukkah party and Shabbat service at 6 p.m. Friday. Dinner is $10 per adult and $5 for children ages 3 to 12; children to age 2 are free. The temple is at 6100 Hefley St. (714) 892-6623.

* The Hebrew Academy in Huntington Beach invites the community to its annual menorah lighting ceremonies this week. Lightings occur at 3 p.m. Monday, at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and at 1:30 p.m. Friday. On Sunday, the academy’s preschool and kindergarten classes will present a Hanukkah program from 10 to 10:30 a.m., followed by games, crafts and refreshments. * Temple Beth El in Aliso Viejo will welcome Rabbi Nellie Shulman of Belarus, who will speak at 8 p.m. Friday. Shulman, the first woman rabbi born in the former Soviet Union, was ordained by the Leo Baeck College in London. A Kabbalat Shabbat dinner will follow a 6 p.m. Shabbat service. Following a Torah study, Shulman will lecture at 10:30 a.m. Friday. On Dec. 15, Shulman will lead a discussion at a donors’ brunch hosted by Susan and Henry Samueli in their home from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost for the Friday buffet dinner is $20 for adults and $10 for children to age 12. * The Gospel Choir Soul Connection will present its “Gospel for the Holidays” concert at 7:30 tonight at Shepherd of the Hills Community Church in Laguna Niguel. * San Clemente Presbyterian Church will present its 15th community Christmas concert featuring more than 130 musicians this weekend. Performers will include adult and children’s choirs, a handbell group and a professional orchestra. Tickets are free. Presentations will take place at 7 tonight and at 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday.
