Teen Vandalizing With Acid Gets 60 Days in Jail
A Lake View Terrace teenager was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years’ probation Friday for using a window-ruining acid compound in Van Nuys.
First-time offender Alberto Vargas, 19, who pleaded guilty in Van Nuys Superior Court to vandalism with damage of more than $400, became the first person to be sentenced for using the acid to mark his name, authorities said. That type of graffiti uses an acid mixture to etch a window. The damage cannot be washed off.
Vargas was caught acid etching at the Van Nuys Volunteer Center at 8134 Van Nuys Blvd. on Dec. 1, authorities said.
