Checking Student Visas

I completely disagree with Lenore Navarro Dowling (letter, Dec. 6), who states, “It is sad that in the interest of protecting our freedoms, which foreign students learn to value, our legislators are beginning to create policies that will erode them.”

What kind of democracy, freedom and civil rights without accountability are we teaching these foreign students--and visitors, for that matter--if we allow them to violate the law?
