Storr Makes Case Quietly

If goalie Jamie Storr is going to campaign for more playing time, he’ll do it in the net and not in the newspaper.

It’s not his place, he said, to lobby on his behalf.

“That’s [Coach] Andy Murray’s decision,” Storr said Sunday night after stopping 24 shots in a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, lowering his goals-against average to 1.78 and raising his save percentage to .923 over his last six appearances. “All I can do is show him I’m ready to play.”

He has done that, compiling a 3-3-2 record, 2.08 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in nine appearances as Felix Potvin’s backup.

Potvin’s numbers: 6-13-2 record, 2.65 GAA, .892 save percentage. In his last four starts, however, Potvin has compiled a 1.48 GAA and .932 save percentage and shown signs that he has shaken his early slump.

“Our goaltending is a real positive part of our team right now,” Murray said. “I think both guys are playing well. That’s obviously a key ingredient to being successful in this league.”

Potvin will start tonight against Nashville.

Storr will sit and wait.

“I try not to get all caught up in the whole situation and not look too far ahead,” he said. “Every time I get an opportunity, make the most of it and make the coach’s decision a little bit tougher.”
