Macrovision Corp., a maker of copyright-protection software for videotapes and digital video discs, said it will cut less than 10% of its work force and offered new fourth-quarter and 2002 forecasts.
Fourth-quarter revenue may be better than previous estimates because of higher sales of DVDs, such as DreamWorks SKG’s “Shrek,” Macrovision President William Krepick said. Previously, the company forecast no revenue growth in the fourth quarter from the third. The company will take a $2.1-million charge in the fourth quarter for the job cuts.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company expects 2002 revenue of $103 million to $108 million and earnings per share of 84 cents to 88 cents. Analysts were expecting 89 cents, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.
Macrovision shares fell 76 cents to $37.80 on Nasdaq.
