Bloomberg News

Macromedia Inc., a maker of Web-design software, said sales this quarter will miss forecasts and it will take longer than expected to turn a profit, as customers scale back spending. Macromedia shares fell as low as $20 in after-hours trading, after rising $1.71 to $27.17 in regular trading on Nasdaq.

Macromedia, which didn’t give a profit forecast, said it expects sales of $70 million to $75 million for its fiscal third quarter ending Dec. 31. The company was expected to post a loss of 6 cents a share on sales of $84.2 million, the average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call.
