Suspect Creates ‘Tense Moment’

The Ukrainian immigrant charged with killing his pregnant wife and five other relatives went to court on crutches Thursday and caused what his attorney called “a tense moment” when he didn’t respond to a judge’s questions.
Nikolay Soltys still won’t say why he leaped from a second-floor County Jail balcony nearly a month ago, breaking a foot.
Soltys was in a recreation room Nov. 15 when he was ordered back to his cell, officials said. He ran up the stairs leading to his cell, then jumped from a second-floor balcony to the concrete floor and struggled with deputies before being subdued.
