Center Tells His Side

Clipper center Michael Olowokandi, who was arrested in the early-morning hours Dec. 1 on suspicion of cohabitant abuse and two other felonies, spoke with a representative of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office Thursday.

Olowokandi told his side of an alleged domestic dispute with a former girlfriend, Suzanne Ketcham, at his Manhattan Beach home. Ketcham has since changed the story she told police Dec. 1. She now says she attacked Olowokandi in a jealous rage.

The district attorney’s office has not made a decision whether to prosecute Olowokandi, a spokeswoman said.

“The matter is under consideration by the district attorney’s office and we expect a resolution by [today],” said George Bird, Olowokandi’s attorney. “We met with the D.A.’s office and presented evidence of our own and witnesses who were never interviewed by the police.”

Shooting guard Eric Piatkowski, in his first game after sitting out five because of a strained right hip flexor, went eight minutes in the Clippers’ 20-point victory Wednesday against Seattle. He aggravated the injury during Thursday’s practice and will not play tonight against the Lakers.

Coach Alvin Gentry reacted with a shrug to a report on Fox Sports Net that suggested his job was in jeopardy. The report was based on an item in the New York Post several days ago. Neither has any basis in fact, the Clippers said.

“That stuff doesn’t bother me,” Gentry said. “Once you have been fired, you don’t worry about anything. I’m going to keep coaching the team and keep working.”
