52 Mecca Pilgrims Killed in Bus Crash
From Times Wire Reports
A bus carrying Muslim pilgrims returning from Mecca veered off the road and burst into flames in southern Jordan, killing all 52 people aboard, a civil defense official said.
The accident occurred on a highway outside the port of Aqaba when the bus’ brakes apparently failed, the official said. The bus sped into a truck depot, where it hit several refrigerator vehicles.
Most of the passengers were believed to be Egyptians who planned to take a ferry from Aqaba to the Egyptian Red Sea port of Nuweiba.
