From Times Wire Reports
Fire swept through a home for the elderly and disabled in southern Italy early today, killing 18 people, many as they slept, news reports said.
At least nine people survived the fast-moving blaze, which destroyed the countryside facility near the town of San Gregorio Magno, the ANSA news agency said.
Many of the dead were found in their beds and appeared to have suffocated from the smoke, the report said.
