Reformer Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison
Iran’s hard-line judiciary has sentenced a top aide to President Mohammad Khatami to six months in prision for criticizing a powerful conservative body, the Iranian Students News Agency reported.
Abdollah Ramazanzadeh, an ethnic Kurd and former governor general of Kurdistan province, is Khatami’s Cabinet secretary.
The Guardian Council, a right-wing body that oversees legislation and polls, accused Ramazanzadeh of spreading lies after he criticized vote cancellations in parts of Kurdistan where fellow reformers were expected to win seats in last year’s parliamentary elections.
