No Evil Animals

Steve Lopez asks what kind of animal thanks God for the horror of Sept. 11 (“ ‘Praise Allah’? No, Leave Him Out of It,” Dec. 14). Only the human animal, Steve! Only heartless, monstrous human beings are capable of such evil concepts or actions.

Let’s not attribute the capacity for cruelty to anything “animal” in our makeup. Animals don’t perpetrate massive violence and destruction against their own, they merely struggle to survive in a world we human beings seem intent upon destroying. Let us thank God for creating the wonderful and complex world of animals that should rightly serve as an example to the human beings who share the Earth with them.
