Clinton Administration Had Ties With Enron

Share

Both The Times and Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Los Angeles) seem intent on trying to corner President Bush into a lose-lose situation regarding the bankruptcy of Enron (“Washington Friends Desert Enron Chief,” Dec. 15). First, they try to find any minutia of evidence that the Bush administration has abused presidential powers to help Enron. Failing that, they accuse President Bush of being a disloyal friend to Ken Lay because he didn’t do anything shady or illegal to bail out his buddy.

If The Times can set aside its bias, perhaps it will finally investigate and report how the Clinton administration did grease the wheels for Lay and Enron (to facilitate the Dabhol power project in India) shortly after Enron made a six-figure “donation” to the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, the rest of us can drive to the nearest service station and fill up on gasoline that is much cheaper than any time during the Clinton administration.
