“A Christmas Carol”-- Hal Landon Jr. has played Scrooge for 22 years for South Coast Repertory. Under the direction of John-David Keller, Landon continues to convey Scrooge’s interior pain with a delicate touch, and his toothy Robert Duvall smile--sparingly deployed--reveals the man beneath the archetype. The play, adapted by Jerry Patch, is a most stage-worthy adaptation, satisfyingly paced, with generous portions of the Dickens original.
