From Times Staff Reports

Newport-Mesa Unified School District officials announced Wednesday that they have selected five architects to draw plans for $170 million in improvements to the district’s 28 campuses.

The architects will begin drawing plans in January for the first phase of the modernization of aging buildings at 10 schools.

Construction on the first of the projects will begin in November.

Money for the work will come from a $110-million school bond approved by voters in 2000 and state matching funds.
