Dance music is dominated by DJs and anonymous studio wizards, but that scene has produced at least one notable full-blown band. L.A.’s Crystal Method shows how to mix electronic beats and rock gestures.

Art

From sensual portraits of peppers to glistening images of seashells and close-ups of gnarled tree trunks, Edward Weston’s photographs transform ordinary bits of nature into elegant high art. “Edward Weston: Life Work,” a collection of 100 vintage prints, celebrates the artist’s uncommon talent for finding unexpected beauty in the commonplace. Spanning 50 years of the artist’s career, the exhibition at the Central Library includes unpublished images as well as signature works.

“Edward Weston: Life Work,” Riordan Central Library, 630 W. 5th St., L.A. Ends March 17. Regular hours: Mondays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. (213) 228-7000.

Movies

With “Not Another Teen Movie” currently taking gross-out humor to new levels (albeit via the down escalator), it might be time to visit the kinder, gentler period of the mid-’80s, when some of the films being spoofed were originally released. The New Beverly Cinema offers a double feature by John Hughes, the onetime king of the misunderstood-teen genre, featuring “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles.” The films turned its young actors, such as Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Emilio Estevez--collectively known as the Brat Pack--into stars. For a little while, anyway.

John Hughes double feature, New Beverly Cinema, 7165 Beverly Blvd., L.A. “The Breakfast Club,” Sunday, 3:50 and 7:30 p.m.; Monday and Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. “Sixteen Candles,” Sunday, 5:40 and 9:20 p.m.; Monday and Tuesday, 9:20 p.m. $3 to $6. (323) 938-4038.
