From Times Wire Reports

Thieves stole about half a million euros just days before the introduction of the currency, police said.

The thieves apparently swung by ropes from the roof to an inner courtyard of Milan’s Cariplo bank and broke through an armor-plated door Wednesday night, police said.

They set off an alarm, but security guards failed to find the gang, police said. On Thursday, it was discovered that about 516,000 euros, or $455,000, was missing.
