10, 9, 8, 7 ... Party

Share

After digesting Glenn Gaslin’s Calendar Weekend cover story (“10, 9, 8, 7 ... ZZZ. It’s New Year’s in L.A.,” Dec. 22), I agree that the county of Los Angeles spreads out far and wide. Apparently Mr. Gaslin is overwhelmed by the popping of his champagne corks and longing for New York. The reality is that usually more than 3 million people fill the streets of Pasadena two days prior to New Year’s Eve (Pasadena is in Los Angeles County, in case he forgot) to really celebrate the New Year.

While misplaced Easterners are longing for the ball to drop, we fill the streets of Pasadena and Hollywood and hotels and house parties. We watch and participate in welcoming the New Year like no other city, county, state or country.

Mr. Gaslin should try celebrating Los Angeles style--on Colorado Boulevard where people are awakened by marching bands and flower-filled floats.
