Interfaith, Contemplative Services Mark New Year

The Alliance for Spiritual Community will sponsor the program “Peace Among Faith Traditions” as part of its third annual New Year’s Day peace celebration. The program will feature prayer from several faiths, including Native American, Hinduism, Islam, Bahai, Judaism, Buddhism and Christianity. * St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin will end 2001 with “A New Beginning and a Fresh Start” at the 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday Eucharists. There will be an opportunity to examine the challenges of 2001 while looking ahead to the new year. Parishioners are invited to bring their remaining holiday goodies for the church coffee hour. * A “New Year’s Eve Sacred Time” retreat will be offered by the Center for Spiritual Development, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. Participants will be guided through a time of reflection on the last year. There will be a New Year’s liturgy, as well as dinner. The cost is $40. * A “New Year’s Eve and Night Watch Service” will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at Unity Church of Tustin. The church will conduct a “burning bowl” ceremony in which participants send negative, unwanted feelings up in smoke. There will also be a chance to write a personal letter to God. * An interfaith “Procession of Light 2002” will begin at the Huntington Beach Pier on Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. The event will feature music and prayers from a number of faiths, including Christianity, Islam and Judaism. * The Supertones, All Together Separate and others will appear at the “Praise 2002” concert from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. New Year’s Eve at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park. Tickets are $23 for groups of 15 or more, $27 per person in advance and $35 at the gate. The price includes park admission with full ride access and a fireworks show.
