Garofalo Defense Comes Back to Haunt Official

Re “Councilman Resigns Amid Conflict Probes,” Dec. 23.

It is reassuring to see Huntington Beach Councilman Dave Garofalo finally departing the political scene amid indefensible charges that he is guilty of betraying the public trust, so that he can “get on with my personal life.” This must be the same Republican “public servant” that Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) defended so splendidly when he denounced The Times for having “no sense of decency” and of “leading a liberal lynch mob” in its coverage of his pal, then Mayor Garofalo, in August 2000. The Times is to be commended, but Rohrabacher deserves mention.
