Latinas in College

* Re “Latinas Face Obstacles in Education, Study Says,” Jan. 25:

I am a sophomore at Mount St. Mary’s College, where many in the student population are Latinas. As Latinas we have all faced barriers and obstacles; however, we are living proof that we can be over-achievers. It is not easy to overlook the stereotypes and statistics that exist on Latinas. Nevertheless, we are finding the strength each day to be accomplished and empowering women.

I am the co-chair of Voces Latinas, a club on campus. Through this club we are able to bring awareness and pride to the Latino community.
