* Internet appliance maker Netpliance Inc. laid off 76 people, or 54% of its work force, and two co-founders of the struggling company resigned. The Austin, Texas-based company said the job cuts are designed to save $6 million. Netpliance makes the i-opener, a computer-like device with a flat-panel screen that connects to the Internet.
