It is sad to think that the points Arianna Huffington (Commentary, Jan. 28) makes need to be made, or that it is a surprise to anyone. The connection between money and political decisions is so tight as to be inseparable under today’s campaign finance laws.

It’s laughable to see Republicans point fingers at former President Clinton for the pardons he granted. President Bush brings in his largest contributor, Kenneth Lay, chairman of Enron, as his “energy advisor.” Enron bought itself the opportunity to sell California energy with a 600% to 800% profit margin. Wonder what Lay’s opinion is on federal regulation of excess profits on wholesale energy prices?
