1999 Bodega J & F Lurton Malbec ‘Reserva,’ Mendoza, Argentina
- Share via
Francois and Jacques Lurton, sons of the prominent Bordeaux estate owner Andre Lurton, make wine in Argentina (as well as France, Spain, Chile, Australia and Uruguay). Their Malbec reserva, made from grapes grown on their estate on the plateau of Mendoza, is an incredible value. Ripe and velvety, this sleek, beautifully balanced red comes in a stately package that belies its $8 price tag.
Tasting of red berries and sweet spices, Bodega Lurton’s Malbec is a versatile food wine. Pull the cork on this one to accompany just about everything, from a chicken pot pie to your grandmother’s lasagna. It wouldn’t hurt to lay in a few extra bottles for barbecue season. -S. IRENE VIRBILA
