Outlook for Real Estate Focus of L.A. Conference

California State Treasurer Philip Angelides and a former consultant to Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan will be among the speakers who will discuss the future of real estate and the new economy in Southern California at the 2001 Real Estate Forecast on Thursday presented by the UCLA Extension and the Los Angeles Times.

The daylong conference will include both Southern California and national real estate forecasts by Grubb & Ellis, one of the world’s largest real estate services companies.

Featured speakers will be Angelides; Alison Lynn Reaser, a former Greenspan consultant and now chief economist for Banc of America Capital Management Inc.; Mitchell Pleis, director of corporate development at Cypress Communications and former director of real estate for California State Teachers Retirement System; and Barry D. Libert, partner at Arthur Andersen and co-director of the New Economy Value Research Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Panels will discuss the profit potential of new technologies, development in downtown Los Angeles, the effect of capital markets on real estate decisions, the condition of local and national real estate markets and the future of Southern California’s real estate markets in the changing economy. Speakers also will address the state’s energy crisis.

The UCLA Extension-Los Angeles Times Real Estate Forecast Awards will be presented to several industry leaders by Extension Dean Robert Lapiner and Times Publisher John P. Puerner.
