Kapono Does Some Extra Dirty Work

Share

Everyone knows Jason Kapono can score, so his 28 points in the victory at DePaul were no great surprise. He was more pleased with his 11 rebounds.

“My coaches always talk about me being a scorer,” he said. “I’ve been trying to play better defense, rebound, all that stuff.”

Kapono said he has found his offensive groove, even though teams are keying on him and paying special attention to shutting him down.

“Teams are trying to pressure me, but I’m still creating my own shot,” he said. “I’m still staying poised and not hurrying it. I’m really not forcing things. That’s something I’d do last year. I’d get frustrated when teams would try to box-and-one on me or try to key on me. I’d try to rush shots and [put up] threes. This year, I’m going to try to post them up or penetrate more.”
