From Times Wire Reports

A truck driver who was sending a cell-phone text message when he struck and killed a pedestrian in Southend, England, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

“It is difficult to imagine a more blatant act of such coldblooded disregard for safety on the roads,” said Judge Daniel Worsley.

Paul Browning, 36, had already admitted to causing death by dangerous driving in the June accident, but he denied that he was using the cell phone when his truck hit 24-year-old Paul Hammond.
