There are millions of dog owners in Los Angeles County and they are entitled to their one mile of beach. You cannot imagine the joy and energy my dog Brandy exudes at the shores of our ocean when I take her down to San Diego’s dog beach. She enjoys the water, the waves and the other dogs. And dog owners enjoy going to the beach with their dogs.

It would seem that there should be at least one mile of beach in Los Angeles County that could be an off-leash dog beach.

It works in San Diego and Huntington Beach; why not here? Why do I have to drive to Orange County or San Diego County when I live, work and pay taxes in Los Angeles County?

The beauty of a designated off-leash dog beach is that people who don’t like dogs or are afraid of them, will know in advance that there are dogs at that beach and they can choose to go to all the other beach areas that do not allow dogs. A designated beach area is useful to both dog owners and non-dog owners alike.

I think the Board of Supervisors for Los Angeles County should give due consideration to a designated off-leash dog beach.
