Florida Vote Panel
Though a brief article on Page A17, news that a “Democratic Panel Will Examine Fla. Vote” (Feb. 15) is momentous. Although our nation has moved forward and the 2000 election is over, issues of disenfranchisement and voting irregularities linger and must be addressed. House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt’s appointment of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) to chair the task force is the first step in tackling the issue. The second step will be to use results to enact an election law that comprehensively covers the nation and all states. Voting procedures and devices ultimately need to be uniform, optimally performing and to fairly represent the voice of all citizens.
