Necktie Suit Ends in Woman’s Favor
A female medical examiner who sued her employer because the office dress code required her to wear a necktie has settled the case out of court for $25,000 and will not be required to wear a tie, her lawyer said.
Daphne Moutry-Allen also will receive back pay for days missed because of the dispute. The Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office will purge her file of any disciplinary record.
Moutry-Allen filed a complaint with the state Equal Rights Division alleging humiliation and discrimination when Medical Examiner Jeffrey Jentzen banned skirts and required everyone to wear ties.
She was sent home for wearing a scarf instead on the first day the new dress code was effective.
