Irvine eye- and skin-care company Allergan Inc. said Friday that it has invested in an online site for eye-care products and has agreed to market the site as its preferred online optometry business for products and services. Allergan declined to reveal how much it invested in VisionWeb LP, an Austin, Texas, joint venture between Essilor of America Inc. and Johnson & Johnson unit Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc. VisionWeb said in a press release that it will be marketed on certain Allergan lens care products, and Allergan’s sales force will market VisionWeb to Allergan’s U.S. optometrist customer base. Under the agreement, Allergan agreed to market its contact lens solutions on VisionWeb’s site, along with its own corporate Web site and the sites of general purpose retailers.
