Home buyers and sellers searching for a home inspector can find one in their area by visiting the American Society of Home Inspectors Web site at https://www.ashi.com.
The site also offers a primer on what to expect from a home inspection, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to other real estate and home-related Web sites.
The nonprofit organization recommends that home buyers ask for home inspector referrals from neighbors or friends, but said when these aren’t available consumers can turn to its Web site or use its toll-free number. The toll-free number is (800) 743-2744. The society also suggests that home buyers check references before hiring an inspector.
