NOTES

A certain former hair-starched local began the Orange Bowl on a strange note.

Even in retirement, Jimmy Johnson just can’t keep his mouth shut.

Johnson, who was honored at midfield before the game with two others for their football contributions, immediately drew a stadium full of boos.

After all, Oklahoma fans despise him because he used to coach at Oklahoma State, while Florida State fans remember when he coached at Miami.

But then Johnson made it worse by giving a pep talk to both schools that ended with, “You know who I’m pulling for. Go Miami!”

He was referring to the Hurricanes’ claim for a share of the national title had Oklahoma lost.

The boos nearly blew him off the midfield orange.
