From Times Wire Reports

Just two years out of law school, the son of Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) has a virtual lock on the top federal prosecutor’s job in South Carolina, an appointment that essentially rests in his father’s hands. Strom Thurmond Jr., 28, who is actively seeking the U.S. attorney job, already has a growing list of endorsements, including support from officials of both major political parties. He has no official party affiliation. His 98-year-old father, the oldest and longest-serving senator, is the second-ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which would review his son’s nomination. It would be up to incoming President George W. Bush to nominate the younger Thurmond.
