UC Irvine Coach Kuntz Gets Contract Extension

UC Irvine gave a two-year contract extension to men’s soccer Coach George Kuntz Tuesday, the same day that two area players committed to play for the Anteaters.

Sweeper Josh Brown of Capistrano Valley and former Huntington Beach High and Orange Coast College midfielder Matt Mosely said they have committed to Irvine.

Brown was an All-South Coast Conference performer last season. Mosely scored 10 goals and had four assists for Orange Coast.

BASEBALL

Bill Stoneman, the Angels’ vice president and general manager, and Manager Mike Scioscia will be the speakers Tuesday at the Sports Newsmakers luncheon at the Arrowhead Pond.

Each is beginning his second season with the club.

The luncheon begins at noon. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Reservations can be made by calling (714) 758-0222.

* Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson will be the speaker at Fullerton College’s Hot Stove Dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday at Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park.

Major league players Phil Nevin of the San Diego Padres and Paul Abbott of the Seattle Mariners will be recognized for their professional and community achievements. Nevin played for El Dorado High and Cal State Fullerton and Abbott attended Sunny Hills High.
