Seeing the Light

It’s not that we’re stupid or frivolous, it’s just that, well, we go gaga for pretty lights. That’s why we love Christmas, Laserium and Kiss concerts. And now we’re partial to the Sauce LightWand, a funky pocket-size light that changes colors like those big, strange towers at LAX.

Yup, that’s all it does, but for $15 the LightWand is still pretty cool. Developed by Color Kinetics, which makes high-end home lighting fixtures, the LightWand uses red, green and blue light-emitting diodes to create a constant wash of color that’s small enough to use as a key chain.

Set to go on sale this spring, the LightWand is the sort of utterly useless tchotchke that kids and teens love. Expect to see LightWands show up at concerts or tacked onto backpacks as a fashion accessory. Check out an interactive demo at https://www.cksauce.com.
