And a one, and a two . . .
About 35 people turned out last week for the inaugural practice of Placentia’s first community band--a group formed recently to help boost the small-town spirit among the city’s growing population.
Director Stan Freese, talent casting director at Disneyland, took it upon himself, along with former Councilman Michael L. Maertzweiler, to help form the group of hometown harmonists, who will play Sunday concerts at the park and perform at local celebrations. Freese said he was pleased with the interest shown so far.
“This was the perfect community band first night,” he said. Would-be members ranged from recent high school graduates to senior citizens who hadn’t picked up their instruments since high school.
The group practices at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays in the band room at Kraemer Middle School, 645 N. Angelina Drive. Anyone interested is joining is welcome to drop by. Freese, a resident of Placentia, is also looking for an associate conductor to help lead the group. Information: (714) 993-8117.
