DanceSafe SoCal, the local chapter of a national nonprofit drug awareness/harm reduction organization, needs volunteers to staff booths at nightclubs, raves, health fairs and dance events. Information: (909) 563-4656.

* Optimist Family Foster and Adoption Services, a Los Angeles treatment and education center for at-risk children, is holding a foster parent orientation beginning Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at its Long Beach office. Information: (800) 454-5561.

* Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro offers a naturalist program, Sea Rangers, which trains volunteers (from sixth graders to adults) to provide interpretation, conservation and environmental monitoring at Cabrillo Beach, the Point Fermin Marine Life Refuge and the Salinas de San Pedro Saltmarsh. Training costs $25. It begins Thursday and runs four consecutive Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Volunteers are asked to give six hours a month of their time to protecting the shore.
