Maggette to Be Out At Least Five Games

To make room on its roster after activating rookie point guard Keyon Dooling, the Clippers put second-year swingman Corey Maggette on the injured list before Monday night’s 89-74 loss at Indiana.

Maggette was expected to sit out at least three games after suffering a mild concussion caused by an accidental elbow from Dikembe Mutombo in Saturday’s loss at Atlanta. Maggette now will be sidelined for at least five games, which means he will not return until after the Clippers play Sacramento on Jan. 27.

“It’s kind of a tough situation because we have a five-game stretch that is so far apart,” Coach Alvin Gentry said. “He’ll probably be ready to play before then and it would have been good to have him match up against two of the teams we are playing next week in Seattle and [the Kings].”

Dooling, who had been on the injured list because of viral syndrome, played 14 minutes and scored four points against the Pacers. He said he was a little sluggish but glad to be playing again.

“You could tell I haven’t played in a while,” said Dooling, who made two of six shots and had three turnovers. “I felt a little rusty out there and my legs were not really there for my jump shot.”

After five productive games as a backup to Jeff McInnis, point guard Earl Boykins did not have the same impact against the Pacers. Boykins played only 10 minutes and had one point and no assists. . . . Center Michael Olowokandi, who arguably had been playing the best basketball of his NBA career, also had an off night as he finished with five points and three rebounds. Olowokandi struggled with foul trouble and played only 18 minutes.
