A retired Long Beach police officer has been arrested on suspicion of luring a 14-year-old boy to his Costa Mesa home and molesting the teen, with whom he had communicated on the Internet, authorities said Tuesday.

Michael Bruce McDonald, 60, who is to be arraigned today at Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, was arrested at his home Friday, police said. Officers also found the boy at the former officer’s home, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Bierney said.

McDonald, who is being held on $150,000 bail, is suspected of meeting the Northern California teen late last year and setting up meetings with him by Internet, Bierney said.

He added that he did not know if the two initially met on the Internet.

Bierney said the boy’s family discovered the communication between the two and alerted authorities.
