Six Candidates Seek City Council Seat

Share

The city has received applications from six residents who want to serve on the City Council to replace Debra H. Lewis, who resigned this month. Lewis, who served as the city’s mayor during its first year of incorporation, moved to San Diego County in December.

City Clerk Marsha Miller said that as of Tuesday afternoon she had received applications from Douglas Null, Mike Safranski, Dweighn Secrist, Bryan Bowers, Jerry Holloway and Thomas Shane Conway. Both Safranski and Conway campaigned for positions on the council during the city’s first election in November 1999.

The council has 30 days from the date of Lewis’ resignation to fill the vacant seat. If the position has not been filled after 30 days, the city will be required to hold a special election. Miller said the council will probably make a decision on whether to fill the vacancy and vote on any appointments at the Feb. 1 meeting.
