Northridge Women Get Boost Off Bench from Shetters, 63-60

Jenny Shetters, a reserve, had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Cal State Northridge held on for a 63-60 victory over Portland State in a Big Sky Conference game Thursday night at Portland State.

Shetters, who played 30 minutes, made six of 10 field-goal attempts but just four of 10 free throws.

Monica Hernandez had 10 points and six assists for the Matadors (7-9, 3-2), who held a big advantage in the paint, where they outscored the Vikings (1-16, 0-5), 30-20.

The Master’s 97, Point Loma Nazarene 72--Lesley DuBois scored 23 points and the Mustangs, ranked No. 8 in NAIA, won a nonconference game at Point Loma.

Karen Gormley and Jorden Whittington each had 16 points for Master’s (19-2).

The Mustangs limited the Crusaders (4-12) to six of 22 shooting (27%) in the second half.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Antelope Valley 80, Barstow 75--Brady Chelette had 19 points and Jimmy White finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Marauders in a Foothill League victory at Barstow.

BOYS’ SOCCER

El Camino Real 3, Chatsworth 1--Ori Adrabi and Jason Lara each had a goal and an assist in a West Valley League victory at El Camino Real (16-3, 3-1).

Cleveland 1, Taft 0--Ben Neri scored from 12 yards in the 68th minute and Nick Arroyo made six saves to record his fourth shutout for the Cavaliers (7-6-2, 1-2-1) in a West Valley League game at Taft.

St. Francis 3, Chaminade 0--Daniel Paladini, Matt Nicchitta and Ryan Shaw scored goals, and Sean O’Connor recorded his eighth shutout in a Mission League game at St. Francis (11-4, 2-2).

Notre Dame 1, Loyola 0--Nick Folk scored on a free kick and the Knights (8-6-1, 3-0-1) earned their first victory over the the Cubs in six seasons in a Mission League game at Loyola.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Quartz Hill 4, Lancaster 0--Goalie Karen Comstock made three saves and recorded her eighth shutout, and the Rebels moved into sole possession of first place in the Golden League at Quartz Hill.

Andrea Cabriales, Cheryl Collins, Alisha Bassett and Mandy Heins scored goals, and Kellie Cox had two assists for the Rebels (12-2-1, 4-0).

Chaminade 4, Flintridge Sacred Heart 1--Jessica Kaczorowski scored two goals, Kim Taylor had a goal and an assist, and Nasrin Pak had two assists in a Mission League victory at Chaminade (11-4-2, 3-0).

Granada Hills 3, Birmingham 0--Krystal Sanchez had a goal and an assist in a West Valley League game at Birmingham.

Granada Hills is 14-5-1, 2-2.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

Hueneme 40, Camarillo 31--The Vikings recorded five pins and dropped the visiting Scorpions (12-1, 1-1) from the unbeaten ranks in a Pacific View League match.

Miguel O’Campo (112 pounds), Joseph Soltero (130), Ignacio De La Cruz (152), Ramiro Ruiz (215) and Pedro Perez (heavyweight) had pins for the Vikings (10-11, 1-1).
