Mistri Signs 4-Year Deal, Gives Up Women’s Team

Al Mistri signed a four-year contract as Cal State Fullerton men’s soccer coach Friday, but will give up duties as coach of the women’s team.

Ali Khosroshahin, an assistant under Mistri for four years, has been named interim coach of the women’s team. The school will conduct a search for a permanent women’s coach in the fall.

“Al has lifted the soccer programs to a point where it was impossible to give [his] full attention to both squads,” Athletic Director John Easterbrook said. “It’s hard enough to serve one team properly, much less two. And with both teams competing in the Big West Conference next season, the time commitments will only become more concentrated.”

Mistri has guided the Titan men’s team to a 229-150-31 record in 20 seasons. Fullerton has reached the NCAA playoffs five times in the last eight seasons. The Titan women are 64-81-11 since Mistri started the program in 1993.
