Bomb Kills at Least 6 at Leftist Rally

A bomb exploded at a leftist political rally in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, killing at least six people and wounding dozens, witnesses and officials said. Thousands of panicked supporters of the Communist Party of Bangladesh poured into the streets and clashed with police after the explosion at Paltan Maidan, a huge meeting ground, police and witnesses said. The bomb went off in the crowd, nearly 600 feet from the dais where communist leaders from 10 political groups were seated, Manzurul Ahsan Khan, leader of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, told reporters. With many of the wounded in critical condition, the death toll was expected to rise.
