Flexible Flyer

Regarding the article about blood clots in airline passengers (“In-Flight Blood Clots Provoke Lawsuits,” News, Tips & Bargains, Jan. 14): In a Swedish airline publication some years ago, I found a method for preventing this problem that involves flexing muscles while seated.

The muscles are flexed in sequence and held for a few seconds, thus pushing some of the blood away from the extremities. First the leg muscles, followed by the thigh, buttock, abdominal and arm muscles. Do once every two hours or so.

All this can be done while seated. I use this technique on long automobile drives also.
