Council to Consider Buying Baseball Site

Council members will consider buying a 4-acre field for $2 million for Little League teams tonight.

For more than 40 years, Delphi Automotive Systems LLC, which owns the property at Magnolia Avenue near the Santa Ana Freeway, has allowed youth teams to use the land for free.

The property, in an industrial area of Anaheim, has two baseball diamonds, snack bars and fencing.

Delphi, an automotive company based in Troy, Mich., that manufactures car batteries and other parts, runs a plant next to the field. When Delphi managers recently decided to sell the excess property, based on business evaluations, city officials decided to step in and consider buying the land for the league.

Jack Kudron, parks superintendent for the Community Services Department, said the proposal would not turn the property into a public park.

The plan is to let the league continue using the field through a license agreement.

The league would be responsible for the cost of operating the field.

City Council members meet at 5 p.m. in the council chamber at City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
