Civics Lesson

I agree with your Jan. 17 editorial recommending that the state settle the ACLU lawsuit asking for better educations for our kids, but I think you overlooked a point. The settlement should include a provision to provide remedial civics classes for those California officials who thought it was a better idea to use taxpayer dollars to defend the state’s right to allow substandard education than to use the money to improve the rotten conditions that exist in so many of our schools.
