* Ray R. Clevenger; Won Emmys for Local Shows

Ray R. Clevenger, 80, Emmy Award-winning television producer and director of such local programs as “Philbin’s People” and “The Sam Yorty Show.” Reared in Omaha, Neb., Clevenger began his career as a drummer in the big band era and later worked primarily with music-related programs. He directed several rock ‘n’ roll showcases--”Boss City,” “Hollywood-A-Go-Go,” “9th Street West” and “Groovy.” He also directed syndicated country and western shows with Roy Clark and Hank Thompson, and PBS specials including “Homage to [Igor] Stravinsky.” Clevenger earned three Emmys for directing shows set in the Hollywood Bowl. He was also known for directing Los Angeles-based talk shows, including the late Mayor Yorty’s show and “Philbin’s People” with Regis Philbin. On Jan. 17 in Olympia, Wash., of pulmonary failure.
